I feel a bit better today as I had a really productive ‘work day’. I think Faye had a better time of things today too and she only has two more days before the Easter holidays starts so that is improving her mood! As an only child, it must be tough being stuck with just your parents!
After work, I managed to do half an hour of gardening and weeded the herb border. As I was working, I remembered that I had bought some slate pegs for this border when I was in Bude two years ago. I must find where I put them and get them in the ground.
As it’s the end of the month, I thought I would do a little book round up. It’s been a good reading month. I have finished the following books:
- ‘Game of Thrones’ by George RR Martin (4.5 stars)
- ‘Black Box Thinking’ by Matthew Syed (4 stars)
- ‘Wolf Brother’ by Michelle Paver (3.5 stars)
- ‘Spirit Walker’ by Michelle Paver (3 stars)
- ‘Weather’ by Jenny Offill (3.5 stars)
- ‘Fleishman is in Trouble’ by Taffy Brodesser-Akner (3 stars)
- ‘The Silkworm’ by Robert Galbraith [Audiobook] (4 stars)
I enjoyed all of them, but most especially Game of Thrones. I wish I had read them before I watched the series as it does take away from the reading a little bit when you know what’s going to happen. I absolutely love the TV series. It’s probably my favourite ever series despite the violence and rude bits! They are just amazing characters and I love how you can feel one way about someone and then completely change your mind as they develop.
I also really enjoyed ‘Black Box Thinking’. It was so interesting! It’s basically a detailed description on how dealing with failure and responding to it can dramatically affect what comes next.
As for the Women’s Long List books (5 and 6 above), whilst I enjoyed them, neither one blew me away and I found issues with both of them. I’m hoping that there is a 5-star book in my reading pile next month!
